The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation operates the largest publicly owned golf course system in the nation, with 20 golf courses at 18 different facilities. These golf courses feature a variety of beautiful and interesting settings from the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains to the Pacific coastline overlooking Catalina Island.
This golf course system offers affordable greens fees, discount programs for senior citizens and students, and an excellent junior golf program. Of the 20 golf courses, 13 are 18-hole regulation length courses, three are convenient 9-hole regulation length courses, one is a challenging 18-hole executive length course, one is an 18-hole par-three course, and two are 9-hole par-three courses.
A product of forward thinking public officials throughout its acquisition and development era, the County’s golf course system is now, in its maturity, a leading symbol of public and private sector partnership in offering quality golf service operations. Innovation and cooperation characterize the efforts between this Department and skilled golf industry professionals who operate our golf courses under management lease agreements. The collaborative efforts of these firms and individuals, and aggressive capital improvement programs, will help ensure that Southern Californians will continue to benefit from the finest public golf experience available for many years to come.
